Before long the workshop developed a loyal following. Customers were the cream of London society; royalty, aristocrats, foreign leaders, bankers and industrialists. There was demand from overseas too, even including a commission to design a bespoke picnic basket for an Indian Maharajah to be carried on his elephant.
By the early 1900's Tanner Krolle had expanded to keep pace with the changes in 20th-century travel, in particular the advent of motoring. Moving to larger premises at Little Britain, in the heart of the City of London, the company updated its suitcase and developed its famous attache, a lightweight piece adapted from the traditional portmanteau.
By now the company’s reputation had caught the attention of London’s financial community and the attaché soon became recognised as the elegant symbol of business prestige.
By this period Tanner Krolle luggage had also become a fashionably respectable wedding gift for elite couples.
In 1917 Tanner Krolle began its long and important relationship with Harrods. Supplying luggage, business pieces and jewel boxes, it’s a relationship that remains to this day and is one of Harrods’ oldest. Harrods was not alone, Tanner Krolle was also regularly commissioned by Asprey and other leading UK retailers .
