Our Craftsmanship
Still based in London, Tanner Krolle's master craftsmen remain committed to excellence. Even today our ethos remains uncompromised, we strive to craft the very best by hand, using only the finest leathers and materials.
Cutting
With over 40 years experience Tanner Krolle’s master cutter is one of the finest in his field, insisting that each skin is meticulously examined, under harsh lighting, to discern the best flow against the leather’s grain. Only then will he employ his scalpel to carve out his pattern.
Hand stitching
One of the finest skills in the workshop, stitchers need to undergo a six-year apprenticeship to become a Tanner Krolle craftsman. Using our trademark of six stitches to every inch, the craftsman runs each thread through pure Beeswax before the needle is employed. Stitch by stitch is knotted to deliver strength and longevity that cannot be replicated by machine.
Leathers and Tanning
English bridle leather enjoys a reputation as one of the world’s finest leathers because of its natural suppleness and flawless vegetable tan finish. And even today Tanner Krolle uses only the cream of hides. Fewer than 10% pass our hand-selection process, and we insist that the skins we use have been reared in cool climates, with the minimum of scarring.
